Missed Programs On Itv Iplayer

  • Catch up on ITV programmes from the last seven days, on your mobile device. ITV Player on Android is ITV's new video catch-up service for mobile and tablet devices.
  • However, you don't need to be covered by a licence if you're only using ‘on-demand' services to watch programmes after they have been shown on TV. So, you need a licence to watch any channel live online, but you wouldn't need one to use BBC iPlayer to catch up on an episode of a programme you missed, for example.

On my old Sky+ HD box, if I missed a programme, I could go into iPlayer or ITV Player, etc, find the programme and simply press the red record button and it would record to my hard disc, so I could watch it at my leisure (usually giving me about 30 days to watch it).
Why is this not possible in YouView? If I try to do so, I get a message saying recording is not possible. It does seem to take away half the benefit of the YouView service.
For example, I prefer to watch several episodes of a series at once, and if I miss the first episode of a series, I can't record it to save until I've a few episodes to watch.

You can just play most programmes you have missed in iPlayer on a Youview box without having to record it to the hard disk first. Even better is to plan ahead and record the programmes as they are broadcast.

iPlayer allows programmes to be viewed for a specified period, usually 30 days. I am surprised that the Sky box allows this to be extended.

Just try and do what I do and plan a week ahead and set programmes to record or series record via the Youview box like I do.
There has been times when I have used IPlayer to watch a show that's been missed or I have forgotten about.
Some of the shows I have been watching have now ended for the summer or are coming to the end of there current season.
Unless I use Netflix some of the shows I watch are not on during the summer months and will not be back on TV till later in the year.

It doesn't, (sometimes 60 days) but it's the only way to record from 'catch-up'. Much to my annoyance it can't be done on terrestrial - I dislike Sky but theirs is the only box that will do it. For stuff on youtube (e.g. indoor bowling) I can at least download it to a PC and then copy it to a USB stick and shove that in my Humax 2000T and watch at my leisure. I haven't looked but I wonder if there is an equivalent to 'Youtube downloader' that will download iplayer etc.?

I tried this but it doesn't work. It came up with an error message that it was missing a dll or something. However, in the course of b****ring about I went into my old iplayer and it told me that there was a new one for slow connections that would download. Well, that does work, and it downloads for 29 days but it won't play on anything except their iplayer even though it shows it with a funny name as an mp4. (I DID try an SD one).
What is needed is a universal downloader, like you tube downloader, that will do BBC, ITV, 4, 5 etc. and in unencrypted form.

I've been using get_iplayer on Windows for years with hardly any issues.

Does the Virgin TiVo let you do anything like this?

Can assure you that get_iplayer certainly DOES work! Make sure you're on the latest version though (3.01, released in May). Some people may find it difficult to use at first but it's worth studying and learning how to use it efficiently.

    Nope.

Tivo doesn't work like that. It can bookmark an on-demand programme for you to watch again but doesn't download a time limited copy. There isn't much point really, it would just be wasting space on the Tivo harddrive.

The HDR-FoxT2 saves iPlayer streams temporarily to HDD; with custom firmware (relatively easy to install) the temporary file can be copied and viewed beyond any time restriction (and transferred to other devices).

Maybe able to record and watch later in the near future??

It doesn't. When you copy something from iplayer to your Sky planner it specifies the date at which it will self delete from your box, which is generally (although as stated in the other reply there are odd exceptions) thirty days from the date of the original broadcast
