The local Cricket store had a demo unit and one in the box for sale. I didn’t plan on leaving Cricket anytime soon and I bought the S8 from the Cricket store. So, I bought the S8 instead of the S8+ and the phone I bought is locked to Cricket for the next six months. I'm OK with that and, after a few days, the S8 is the best phone I've ever had.

This will work regardless of what Android device you have*, although I'm going to assume that you're using Android 4.x. (* For Android Oreo and later, follow the steps at the end of the article.) The primary difference you might find is the home screen default used by your device. For example, the Samsung Galaxy line uses the TouchWiz home screen, whereas the Motorola Moto X uses Launcher. You'll also need to know the name of the launcher that you're currently running (such as Nova or 3D Home). Here's how to reset to the default.

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Locate Apps or Application Manager (depending upon which device you use).
  3. Swipe the screen to the left to get to the All tab.
  4. Scroll down until you locate the currently running home screen.
  5. Scroll down until you see the Clear Defaults button (Figure A).
  6. Tap Clear Defaults.

Now that you've cleared the defaults, you have to set a new default home screen. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Tap the home button.
  2. Select the home screen you want to use.
  3. Tap Always (Figure B).

The good thing about this tip is that it applies to any type of app that sets a default application—just alter what application's defaults you clear from the application manager.

  1. Open the Settings app.
  2. Search for Home.
  3. Tap Home app from the results (Figure C).
  4. Select the home screen launcher you wish to use from the popup (Figure D).

  1. From home, swipe up to access Apps.
  2. Tap Settings > Sounds and vibration > Notification sounds and configure the following options:
